The French Erg Series are back for their 2nd edition!
Here is why participating is a brilliant idea for your fitness journey.
French what??
The French Erg Series is essentially a triathlon for ergs:
- 2,500m Row
- followed by 2,500m SkiErg
- and finishing with 10,000m BikeErg.
That is the standard version, but there are also Double and Solo Sprint formats available.
Extremely popular in the UK under a slightly different format (max calories in 20' on each erg) with a circuit of about twenty events, this type of competition is set to explode alongside the rise of Fitness Racing.
So, here are 3 reasons why you should grab your spot before it sells out (and no, I’m not getting a commission for saying this! :)) :
1. You have never done an Hyrox before
Do you have an Hyrox planned for the end of the year, or are you still hesitating to take the plunge? Taking part in an ergathlon is a great first step into multisport racing and, more importantly, a perfect way to build your engine.
Cardio is the foundation of Hyrox, with its 8km of running, 3 stations that are 100% cardio-based, and an average effort duration of 1.5 hours. There is a massive carry-over between these sports: the hours spent on ergs will directly improve your running economy.
Plus, you will be able to train several times a week on the Ski and Row-Erg-something even elite Hyroxers rarely do more than once a week. You’ll start your Hyrox prep with a significant edge over the competition.
2. Your Hyrox season is over
So, you’re officially in the off-season. You have plenty of time before your next races (September at the earliest).
Take this opportunity to go through a heavy cardio cycle. Focus on your different energy systems: Zone 2, Threshold 1 & 2, and VO2 Max. This is also the perfect time to reach a new milestone in your rowing and skiing technique by hitting them 2 or 3 times a week. It’s the best chance to fix a weakness or turn a strength into a superpower.
3. You have an Hyrox coming up in May or June
Extend your season with one last cardio push before taking a break in July. Take advantage of your peak fitness to enjoy one last race before your body needs to recover. Just like in scenario #2, this final cycle will pay dividends for what's next.
So, are you ready to join the world of triple-effort "Erg style"?
