Running Pace Calculator
Pace → Time · Time → Pace · Converter · Splits · Effort Zones · HYROX Context
Whether you're preparing for a 5K, a half marathon, or a HYROX race, knowing your running pace is the foundation of structured training. This calculator lets you instantly estimate your finish times across all key distances - or work backwards to find the exact pace you need to hit your goal.
Unlike standard calculators, this tool includes a HYROX context: it estimates your total running time (8 × 1 km = 10 km of running) and adds average obstacle time to give you a realistic projection of your race-day performance.
World records are displayed as reference points for each distance - not to discourage you, but to give you a sense of scale and celebrate how far you've come.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I calculate my running pace?+
Running pace is the time it takes to cover 1 kilometre. Divide your total time in seconds by the distance in kilometres. For example, finishing a 10K in 50 minutes gives 50 × 60 / 10 = 300 sec/km, which equals a pace of 5:00 min/km.
What pace do I need for a 2-hour half marathon?+
To finish a half marathon (21.097 km) in 2 hours, you need to run at approximately 5:41 min/km on average, which is a speed of 10.5 km/h. Use Mode 2 (Time → Pace) in the calculator to get this result instantly.
How do I convert km/h to min/km?+
The formula is: pace (sec/km) = 3600 / speed (km/h). For example, 12 km/h → 3600 / 12 = 300 sec = 5:00 min/km. Mode 3 of the calculator performs this conversion in real time, in both directions.
What pace do I need for HYROX?+
In HYROX, you run 8 segments of 1 km (10 km total) interspersed with obstacles. For a 1h30 target, estimating 30 min for obstacles, you need to run at approximately 6:00 min/km on the running segments. The HYROX section of the calculator gives you this projection automatically.
What are running effort zones?+
Effort zones (Recovery, Endurance, Tempo, Threshold, VO₂max) correspond to different training intensities. Each zone has specific benefits for athletic development. This calculator automatically identifies your zone based on the pace you enter.
What pace do I need to run a 10K in under 50 minutes?+
To run a 10K in under 50 minutes, you need to maintain a pace faster than 5:00 min/km (more than 12 km/h). In Mode 2 (Time → Pace), enter 10 km and 00:50:00 to get the exact target pace and km-by-km splits.
How can I run faster on HYROX running segments?+
To improve your pace on HYROX running segments, build your aerobic base with high-volume Zone 2 running, and add 1-2 interval sessions per week (400m to 1km at your target HYROX pace). Pacing between stations is equally critical: going out too fast on the first segments creates an oxygen debt you can't recover from.
